Family Dental Tooth Care to avoid future problems

Once we lose our baby teeth, the teeth we get are meant to last throughout our life. That is why they are very precious and need to be treated with utmost care.

The most basic way to take care of your teeth is by cleaning them twice a day, everyday. Make sure you use a good toothbrush and change it as soon as you notice that their texture and quality is deteriorated. This usually happens after three to six months of usage.

Choose good quality toothpaste. With the popular brands marketing so many flavors and formulations, there is always an array to choose from, depending upon your taste.

Before using a toothbrush, do not wet it with water since this will dilute the toothpaste. Also, after using the brush, rinse it thoroughly and keep it in a clean, closed box or the toothbrush’s own receptacle.

Be very of using just any mouthwash you pick up off the shelf. There are many of them which are great to taste but are not really effective. Use one which contains chlorohexidine, a content which is antiseptic in nature and helps fight gum diseases.

While brushing your teeth, it is important to clean around the gum-line and also in-between the teeth so that the bacteria-forming food particles do not get settled there.

Flossing is another important way to take care of your teeth. You can use inter-dental brushes or flossing sticks and tapes. Ask your dentist to show a demonstration of how to use them.

Even for people with healthy teeth, a dental check-up is recommended to be done once in six months. During such visits, the dentist will examine your teeth and look for signs of tooth decay and other diseases. If any such decay is found, the dentist will suggest further procedures to be carried out.

Children also need to attend regular check-ups. Apart from examining their teeth for any possible signs of decay, the dentist will also verify that their teeth are growing correctly and, if necessary, will suggest orthodontic treatment in order to correct any misalignments.

Dentists are the experts at caring for your teeth but you must take responsibility for yourself by following a healthy diet, cleaning the teeth regularly, avoiding intake of sugary foods and ensuring regular dental checkups.
